DEADLY WEEKEND-3 KILLED IN ORANGE COUNTY CAR CRASHES

It was an unusually deadly weekend in Orange County as 3 people were killed in separate traffic accidents.

The first crash reported shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday morning happened on the southbound 5 freeway near 17th st. in Santa Ana. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Mini Cooper crashed into the center divider and stopped blacked out in traffic lanes. The car was hit by a van and 2 other cars killing a 24 year old identified as Gabriel Carpio of Tustin and injuring his passenger.

The second fatal crash of the weekend happened in Fullerton around 1:15 a.m. Sunday morning at the intersection of Castlewood Drive and Parks Road. Area residents called police when they heard a loud crash. Arriving police found a Hyundai Sonata that had failed to negotiate a turn and slammed into a guardrail. An unconscious 36 year old man was inside with no pulse. An Officer began CPR until Paramedics arrived and took over. The man was transported to U.C.I. Medical Center in Orange where he was pronounced dead. The Coroner has not yet released his identity.

The third fatality occurred at the intersection of Imperial Highway and Kraemer Blvd. in Brea shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday when a woman in a Toyota Corolla southbound on Kraemer may have run a red light and hit a Ford Fusion driving eastbound on Imperial Highway with 3 people inside. The Ford ran off the road and hit a tree. All 3 people in the Ford suffered non life threatening injuries and were transported by ambulances to area hospitals.

The woman driving the Toyota was ejected from her car on impact and was pronounced dead at the scene. She appears to have not been wearing a seat belt. The Coroner has not released her name pending notification of her family.

All 3 accidents are being investigated as possible DUI incidents. Final determinations will be dependent on the results of blood analysis by the Coroner.
