HELICOPTER CRASHES INTO NEWPORT BEACH HOME KILLING 3

A Robinson R44 helicopter carrying 4 people crashed into a home on Egret Court in Newport Beach shortly after it took off from nearby Orange County Airport.

The first 911 call came in to Newport Beach Police at 1:51 p.m. and Firefighters were at the scene in under 4 minutes.

The pilot was transported by ambulance to Orange County Global Hospital in Santa Ana. Three passengers in the helicopter were pronounced dead at the scene by Paramedics. At least one person on the ground was injured by flying debris. His injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

The helicopter was reportedly least to Revolution Aviation, a flight school at Orange County Airport.

Although there was a substantial fuel leak from the helicopter, there was no fire on impact.

The FAA and NTSB are sending representatives to investigate the accident.
