FIRE CAPTAIN RECOGNIZED FOR LIVE-SAVING ACTIONS FOLLOWING JUNE 30 FREEWAY PLANE CRASH

Orange County Fire Authority’s fire chief and board of directors are recognizing Avalon City Fire Captain John Meffert with a special commendation on July 27 for his actions following the recent plane crash on the 405 Freeway.

According to an OCFA press release, Meffert was driving on the 405 Freeway on June 30 when his car was hit by a small twin engine Cessna that had lost engine power during takeoff from John Wayne Airport and crashed onto the southbound part of the freeway. Meffert helped pull the pilot and passenger out of the plane, which was on fire, according to the statement.

The public is welcome to attend the board meeting on Thursday, July 27 at  6 p.m. at Orange County Fire Authority Headquarters in the Board of Directors Chamber, 1 Fire Authority Rd., Irvine.
