Celebrate Zookeepers at OC Zoo

Orange County Zoo invites the public for Zookeeper Appreciation Day on July 22, including children’s activities and a special zookeeper talk.

“Zookeepers are a vital component of the zoo, both as caregivers to the animals and attendants to the quality of the visitors’ experience,” said Orange County Supervisor Todd Spitzer in a statement. “Our dedicated zookeepers keep the animals clean, happy and healthy, and encourage a love of the OC Zoo.”

Visitors are welcome to come dressed in zookeeper attire. And the first 100 children – ages 12 and under – will get a free train ticket to Irvine Park Railroad.

Two zookeepers will be talking – “So You Want to Be a Zookeeper” – at 10:30 a.m. Guests can learn what a zookeeper does, as well as meet some animals up close.

The event runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. And activities are free with the purchase of a paid zoo ticket ($2 per person; ages 2 and under are free). Parking is $5 per vehicle.
