FIRE FORCES HOTEL EVACUATION

A fire in a Christmas tree in an elevator lobby on the 11th floor caused the evacuation of the Island Hotel in Newport Beach. The fire was controlled by sprinklers and forced guests into the cold early morning air around 3:30 AM.

Guests were provided blankets while outside and were allowed back to their rooms in about 2 hours.
